Special Olympics GB
Using sport to empower children and adults with an intellectual disability to enhance their health and wellbeing

Special Olympics Great Britain (GB) is a non-profit organisation and the largest provider of year-round sports coaching and athletic competition in summer and winter sports for children and adults of all abilities with intellectual disabilities.

We operate across England, Scotland and Wales and currently have more than 120 all ability, inclusive sports clubs covering 28 sports, providing approximately 27,000 regular hour-long sporting sessions per year. All of which is delivered by an amazing team of over 4,000 volunteers who support more than 10,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities to take part.

Our athletes are at the heart of everything we do. As well as giving our athletes the chance to participate in a range of sport every day of the week, every week of the year, Special Olympics GB offers athletes the opportunity to compete and progress at local, regional, national and international levels. In 2019, Special Olympics GB offered 165 all ability, inclusive sports competitions – a competition pathway making us unique within the disability sports sector.

Special Olympics GB is more than just an opportunity to take part in sport – it transforms lives. It provides opportunities to increase confidence, realise potential, develop physical fitness and mental well-being, demonstrate courage and experience new friendships. And above all for both athletes and their families – to have some fun!

The work of Special Olympics GB is currently funded by individuals, trust and corporate donations and financial support is crucial to enable us to continue our work.
